About The Artist
- Richard Harsh
- Richard Harsh was born in Cambridge, MA, in 1943 and raised in San Diego where he acquired a love for sailing, surfing, and the sea. He received a BA in Fine Arts from UCLA and entered teaching. He taught art and art history for 41 years at an inner city high school in the south central LA city of Lynwood. Richard says, “Teaching is my true passion; I don’t just love it, I’m impassioned by it. If I won a lottery today I’d continue teaching for free. On a scale of one to ten teaching is a 22,000”. Rick’s wife Kim, his other passion, taught "at risk” kids for 40 years. Together they follow their passion for travel, and pursue their mutual love of art and architecture. In 1969 Richard opened a one-man gallery in Manhattan Beach. There he developed his portrait montage style, capturing the many moods of his subjects. Richard’s present oils include a city series, interiors, figurative, classic cars, and his sailing and pier pieces. His art reflects his love for the sea as well as his fascination of the play of light on water.
